Types Of Oak Flooring

When choosing a hardwood floor, homeowners can choose from a variety of wood types.  These  wood types can be native to exotic, depending on the home owner's taste. Of all the hardwood floor choices, Red Oak Flooring is the most popular. This Flooring popularity comes from being a harder wood and it is more available and affordable than other hardwoods.


The reddish hue of Red Oak Flooring makes coloring more appealing to the eye than the brown grayish hue of white oak flooring.  The grain of the Red Oak Flooring is courser and more porous than white oak flooring.  White oak flooring has more markings, such as burls and swirls, than Red Oak Flooring does. All in all, when it comes to appearance, Red Oak Flooring is more popular.

When selecting the grade of the wood flooring, they are similar in both Red Oak  Flooring and white oak.  Grades of oak wood flooring come in clear, select and common.  Although they may have streaks and pin worm holes, a clear grade does not have noticeable blemishes. Natural colors and knots are the features of the select grade. There is two common grades of oak. They both show variations of colors and characters that are brought about by both nature and machining.

The thickness of these strips range from five sixteenth inch to three quarters thick.  Plank flooring are from one half inches to three quarter inch thick and three inches to eight inches wide.  Parquet flooring is another type.  They compose of many wood slats and placed in geometrical patterned.

Mohawk sells both finished and unfinished oak hardwood flooring in both red and white oak.  They also sell solid wood flooring. Pennington sells both types of oak flooring. They sell the wood either prefinished or presanded.

Red Oak Flooring and whit oak flooring have a lot of advantages for the homeowner. Natural beauty is probably the biggest reason that homeowners put hardwood floors in their homes.  Other characteristics of  oak hardwood floors are no allergens, they  are warm and inviting, adds value,  and easy to keep clean.
